Description

Delicious homemade corn dogs made with beef cocktail franks, perfect for any occasion!


Ingredients

  • 24 beef cocktail franks
  • 1 cup ground yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup canola oil (for frying)
  • mustard (optional dipping sauce)

Instructions

  1. Start by combining the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a shallow bowl and mix until combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the egg and milk; then whisk until smooth. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients; mix well.
  3. Heat about 1/2 cup of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until the oil is hot. If you add a drop of batter or water to the pan and it ‘pops’ the oil is hot enough.
  4. When the oil is hot, pierce each cocktail frank with a skewer; then dip into the batter coating all sides and place in the pan.
  5. Fry 1-2 minutes per side, turning so that each side is golden brown. You will have to do this in batches and do not overcrowd the pan.
  6. Remove the corndogs from the pan and drain on a sheet pan lined with paper towels to remove any excess oil. Repeat for all franks until they’re all done; then place on a serving platter and serve with your favorite mustard as a dipping sauce.

  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying for a crispy texture.
