Ingredients

Scale
  • 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ tsp instant yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp butter, softened
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Oil for frying
  • ½ cup fine sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add egg, butter, and salt; mix in flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead for 8–10 minutes, then cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll dough to ½-inch thickness and cut out donut shapes using a cutter.
  5. Place on parchment and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  6. Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  7. Drain briefly and roll warm donuts in fine sugar to coat.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
  • Donuts can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
  • Experiment with different coatings like cinnamon sugar for variety.
