Description
A delicious recipe for crispy sticky tofu that is easy to make and incredibly flavorful.
Ingredients
Scale
- 14 oz (400 g) firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
Instructions
- Start by pressing your tofu. This step makes all the difference. I like to wrap the block in a clean kitchen towel and place something heavy on top.
- Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes. Toss them gently in cornstarch until each piece is lightly coated.
- Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. When it is hot, add the tofu in a single layer. Let it cook undisturbed for a few minutes before turning.
- While the tofu cooks, whisk together the sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
- Once the tofu is crispy, pour the sauce into the pan. Stir gently to coat every piece.
- Turn off the heat once the tofu is fully coated and sticky. Serve immediately while everything is still warm and fragrant.
Notes
- Pressing the tofu is essential for achieving that crispy texture.
- Ensure the oil is hot before adding the tofu for optimal crispiness.
