Description
A delicious warm apple crisp dessert featuring tender apples and a crispy oat topping, best served with ice cream or whipped cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare Apple Filling: Place the sliced apples in a large bowl. Drizzle the lemon juice over the apples and toss to coat. Add granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well to ensure the apples are evenly coated.
- Transfer to Baking Dish: Spread the apple mixture evenly in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Make the Topping: In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt. Add the diced butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Assemble the Crisp: Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the apple crisp to cool slightly. Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- For extra flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the apple mixture.
- Try using a mix of apples, such as Granny Smith and Honeycrisp, for a balance of tart and sweet flavors.
- If you prefer a less sweet version, reduce the amount of sugar in the apple mixture.
- To make the topping extra crispy, include chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts.
