Ingredients

  • 2 cans navy beans or mixed beans (drained)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce or ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses or maple syrup
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, sauté onions until soft and golden.
  3. In a large bowl, combine tomato sauce, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire, and seasonings.
  4. Stir in the sautéed onions and beans, mixing until evenly coated.
  5. Transfer to the baking dish and bake uncovered for 45–60 minutes, stirring once halfway through.
  6. Sauce should thicken and caramelize slightly at the edges.
  7. Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh herbs and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add more cayenne pepper.
