- 2 cans navy beans or mixed beans (drained)
- 1 cup tomato sauce or ketchup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses or maple syrup
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp cayenne (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a baking dish.
- In a skillet, sauté onions until soft and golden.
- In a large bowl, combine tomato sauce, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire, and seasonings.
- Stir in the sautéed onions and beans, mixing until evenly coated.
- Transfer to the baking dish and bake uncovered for 45–60 minutes, stirring once halfway through.
- Sauce should thicken and caramelize slightly at the edges.
- Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh herbs and serve warm.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add more cayenne pepper.
- These beans can be made ahead of time and reheated.
- Serve as a side dish or a main vegetarian meal.
