Description
These roasted cabbage steaks are a delicious and healthy side dish, bursting with flavor from garlic, paprika, and a hint of spice.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large head green cabbage (approx. 1 lbs / 700-900g)
- 2–3 tablespoons olive oil (30-45ml)
- 1 teaspoon salt (5g)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (5g)
- 1 teaspoon paprika (5g)
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (1g, optional)
Instructions
- Carefully slice the bottom stem off the cabbage head. Stand the cabbage upright and cut it in half through the core. Slice each half in half again, creating four sturdy, ¾ to 1-inch thick ‘steaks.’ Ensure the core remains intact on each slice.
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the cabbage steaks on the sheet, allowing space around each one for even browning.
- Generously brush the top side of each cabbage steak with olive oil. Sprinkle half of the salt, garlic powder, and paprika evenly over the oiled surfaces.
- Carefully flip each cabbage steak over. Brush the second side with the remaining olive oil and generously sprinkle with the rest of the salt, garlic powder, and paprika. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to each steak, if desired.
- Place the baking sheet into your preheated 400°F (200°C) oven. Roast for about 25 minutes, or until the cabbage leaves are beautifully browned and tender-crisp on the edges.
Notes
- These cabbage steaks can be served as a flavorful side dish or a healthy main course.
- Feel free to adjust the spices based on your preference.
