Description
These puff pastry hearts filled with hummus and pesto are a delightful and fun treat, perfect for sharing!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry (gluten-free or regular!)
- 1 egg, whisked (for egg wash)
- hummus (any flavor)
- pesto (link to homemade recipe in the notes)
- fresh tomato, chopped
- fresh basil, for topping
- nutella (link to healthy nutella in the notes)
- fresh strawberries, for topping (after baking)
- jam
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment.
- Roll the sheet of puff pastry out flat. Cut it in half vertically and horizontally to create 4 squares.
- Then cut each square into 4 smaller squares.
- Use a cookie cutter to cut a heart shape out of the center of half of the squares.
- Use a fork to poke holes in the remaining halves.
- Brush the squares with holes with egg wash.
- Place the heart-shaped squares on top of the holed squares.
- Put a small spoonful of hummus and pesto inside the heart cutouts (don’t add too much!). You can also include tiny chopped tomatoes and parmesan.
- Pop the tray in the freezer for 10 minutes.
- Bake straight from the freezer, following the box instructions (this may vary depending on the puff pastry).
- Flip the pan halfway through for even browning.
- When golden, they’re done!
- Top with fresh basil and serve on a cute board for a fun presentation.
