Description
Delicious and festive pink candy coated apples, perfect for parties and special occasions!
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or any tart variety)
- 8 wooden sticks for inserting into the apples
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- Pink food coloring (gel or liquid)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Apples:
- Wash and thoroughly dry the apples.
- Remove the stems and insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple.
- Prepare Baking Sheet:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
- Make Candy Coating:
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup.
- Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Increase the heat to high and bring to a boil without stirring. Use a candy thermometer to ensure it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Add Coloring and Flavor:
- Once the desired temperature is reached, remove the saucepan from heat.
- Stir in the pink food coloring and vanilla extract, if using. Mix until the color is even.
- Coat the Apples:
- Working quickly, dip each apple into the candy mixture, turning to coat it evenly.
- Allow excess to drip off, then place the coated apple on the prepared baking sheet.
- Cool and Set:
- Let the candy apples cool at room temperature until the coating is hard and set.
Notes
- Use a food-safe thermometer to monitor the syrup temperature accurately.
- If the candy starts to harden during coating, gently reheat it over low heat.
- For an extra touch, consider adding edible glitter or sprinkles while the coating is still tacky.
- Store the candy apples in a cool, dry place to prevent the candy from melting.
