Description

Juicy meatballs baked in caramelized onion gravy and topped with gooey melted cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 2 Onions (thinly sliced)
  • 1 cup Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp Thyme
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix ground beef with breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, salt, and pepper; form into meatballs.
  2. In a skillet, caramelize onions slowly with butter and olive oil until golden and soft.
  3. Add beef broth and thyme to onions, simmering into a rich gravy.
  4. Brown meatballs in a separate pan, then transfer into the onion gravy.
  5. Place skillet in oven, top meatballs generously with cheese.
  6. Bake for 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish with extra thyme and serve hot with crusty bread.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of beef and pork for the meatballs.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of cheese based on your preference.
