Description

Delicious and easy homemade apple butter made in a Crock Pot.


Ingredients

  • 68 medium apples (like Granny Smith, Fuji, or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel, and core the apples. Cut them into small chunks and place them in the Crock Pot.
  2. Sprinkle in the sugar, spices, lemon juice, and salt. Stir everything together to coat the apples evenly.
  3. Cover the Crock Pot and set it on low for 8-10 hours, or until the apples are soft and the mixture has darkened significantly.
  4. Once cooked, use an immersion blender to purée the mixture until smooth. If you don’t have an immersion blender, carefully transfer the mixture to a stand blender in batches.
  5. If you want to preserve your apple butter, pour it into sterilized jars while hot, seal them tightly, and process in a boiling water bath for about 10 minutes.
  6. Allow the jars to cool completely before labeling and storing them. Store your apple butter in the refrigerator or a cool pantry.
