Description

Enjoy your festive and vibrant candy apples!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples
  • 6 wooden sticks or decorative straws
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • Food coloring (various colors for a gradient effect)
  • Edible glitter
  • Candy thermometer

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apples:
    • Wash and thoroughly dry the apples to ensure the candy coating sticks.
    • Remove the stems and insert a wooden stick or decorative straw into each apple’s core, ensuring it is secure.
  2. Prepare the Candy Mixture:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water.
    • Stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Cooking the Candy Coating:
    • Once the sugar is dissolved, increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil without stirring.
    • Using a candy thermometer, allow the mixture to reach 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Add Colors:
    • Divide the hot candy mixture into separate bowls for each color you plan to use.
    • Add food coloring to each bowl, stirring gently to combine.
  5. Coat the Apples:
    • Dip each apple into the colored candy mixture, tilting the pan to coat all sides.
    • Allow excess candy to drip off.
    • Immediately sprinkle edible glitter over the wet coating.
    • Place the coated apples on a sheet of parchment paper to set and cool completely.

Notes

  • Moisture-Free: Ensure apples are completely dry; moisture can prevent the candy from sticking.
  • Gradient Effect: For a gradient look, dip each apple into one color and allow it to set slightly before dipping the lower half into another color.
  • Safety: Be cautious while handling the hot candy mixture to avoid burns.
  • Storage: Once cooled, store the candy apples in a cool, dry place. Avoid humidity to prevent stickiness.
