Description

A delicious baked ziti pasta dish packed with flavors and cheesy goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (16 ounces) Ziti pasta
  • ½ cup diced onions
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasonings
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 jars (22 ounces) marinara sauce
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 6 slices Provolone cheese, cut in half, divided
  • 1 ½ cups shredded Mozzarella, divided

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to the directions on the box, to an al dente texture. Don’t overcook them as they will go in the oven for 30 minutes.
  2. Once the pasta is cooked, drain the water and add 2 tablespoons of oil or butter (OPTIONAL) so they don’t stick together. Set aside.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  4. Oil or butter a 9 x 13 baking dish.
  5. In a skillet, over medium heat, cook the onions until they are translucent.
  6. Add the ground beef. Using a heat-proof spoon, break the meat into pieces and add the Italian seasonings, salt, ground black pepper, and oregano. Mix and cook the meat completely.
  7. Drain the fat from the meat. Place back on the stove over medium heat.
  8. Add the sour cream, Marinara sauce, and heavy cream. Mix well and let it simmer for 5 to 8 minutes while mixing.
  9. Place half of the cooked pasta in the baking dish in a single layer.
  10. Pour half of the meat sauce and gently spread evenly, don’t mix.
  11. Place 3 slices of Provolone cheese and ½ cup shredded Mozzarella on top.
  12. Add the remaining of the pasta on top of the cheese.
  13. Evenly spread the remaining of the sauce over the pasta.
  14. Add 3 slices of Provolone cheese and 1 cup of shredded Mozzarella. (NOTE: If you like VERY cheesy, add ½ cup extra of Mozzarella)
  15. Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  16. Uncover and bake for an additional 8 to 10 minutes or until the cheese is nice and golden on top.
  17. Serve and Enjoy!
